Can you freeze garlic?
Good question! And the answer might surprise you, because yes, you can easily freeze garlic, but not just any way. First of all, you need to peel it well, then wrap it in paper towels and place it in a container before placing it in the freezer. Be careful though, after about two months, the garlic may lose its aroma and properties. Therefore, we recommend that you consume it well first.
How do you properly store garlic in the freezer?
If you don’t want to make missteps, you need to familiarize yourself with the most appropriate storage methods. If you want your head of garlic to retain all its goodness and last longer, there are smart ways to store it in the freezer. And sometimes it is even more recommended than canned garlic.
- Whole heads and unpeeled pods
Place the garlic in a suitable plastic freezer bag, squeeze out the air, seal tightly and freeze.
- How do you freeze peeled pods?
Spread the garlic cloves on a flat surface such as a small baking sheet. Cover them with cling film and freeze them for an hour. Then, wrap the frozen pods in foil and place them in an airtight plastic bag. Label, date and freezing.
- Garlic paste
That’s right, garlic puree can be frozen too! It’s very simple: fill this batter into a silicone ice cube mold and freeze until firm (about an hour). Then, transfer the garlic paste cubes to an airtight freezer bag. And this is all. You can keep it frozen this way for several months. But it is better to consume it within the next six months.
