Warning: It is common for people with chronic kidney disease to have anemia. Anemia can begin to develop when someone has 20% to 50% normal kidney function. If you are getting enough rest and sleep, but still experiencing feelings of tiredness, low energy levels, and general weakness, you should visit your doctor without delay.
You have dry, itchy skin. Healthy kidneys do an incredible job of removing waste and excess fluid from the blood, helping to produce red blood cells, and maintaining adequate amounts of minerals in the body. Dry, itchy skin indicates that the kidneys are unable to maintain the proper balance of minerals and nutrients, which can cause bone and kidney diseases.
Warning: If you have dry, itchy skin, try to stay extra hydrated. Remember, before taking any medication for itching, consult your doctor. Some medications contain ingredients that have the potential to further damage kidney function.
Having problems with bad breath and metallic taste. When waste builds up in the blood, it changes the taste of food and leaves a metallic taste in your mouth. Having bad breath is another sign of having too many toxins and pollution in your blood. Additionally, you may stop craving meat and lose your appetite in general, which can lead to unhealthy weight loss.
Warning: There are several reasons why foods may taste metallic (from allergies to poor oral health). Normally, the metallic taste in your mouth should go away if the suspected cause has been treated. If the taste continues to appear, you should contact your doctor.
Difficulty breathing. The relationship between kidney disease and difficulty breathing, especially after little effort, is due to two factors. First, excess fluid from the body passes into the lungs when the kidneys do not function properly. Secondly, anemia deprives the body of oxygen and this causes difficulty breathing.
Warning: There are several reasons for shortness of breath, from kidney failure to asthma to lung cancer or heart failure. If you notice that you are constantly out of breath after making a small effort, you should contact your doctor immediately.
