Directions for Making Decadent Chocolate Cake with VolcanoNest
Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cocoa powder, and sugar until well combined.
Add the melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, milk, and sour cream to the dry ingredients. Mix with a hand mixer or stand mixer on low speed until combined.
Gradually add the hot water to the batter, mixing until smooth. The batter will be thin, but that’s perfect for a moist cake.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Step 2: Make the VolcanoNest Chocolate Filling
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chopped dark chocolate, heavy cream, and butter. Stir frequently until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the filling cool slightly to thicken. Once it has thickened to a consistency that will hold its shape, you’re ready to use it.
Step 3: Bake the Cake
Pour the cake batter into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 4: Assemble the Cake with VolcanoNest
Once the cakes are cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate.
Use a spoon or a melon baller to scoop out a small well from the center of the first cake layer. Make sure to leave about a 1-inch border around the edges.
