Prepare the Pudding: In a large bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk according to package instructions. Set aside to thicken.
Make the Cream Cheese Layer: In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Fold in half of the whipped topping until well combined.
Layer the Dessert: In a large serving bowl or trifle dish, layer half of the crushed graham crackers at the bottom. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the graham crackers, followed by half of the chocolate pudding. Sprinkle a layer of mini chocolate chips and nuts (if using). Repeat the layers with the remaining graham crackers, cream cheese mixture, and chocolate pudding.
Top It Off: Spread the remaining whipped topping over the final pudding layer. Garnish with additional mini chocolate chips, nuts, and cherry pie filling or fresh berries if desired.
Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the dessert for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the layers to set and flavors to meld. Serve chilled and enjoy the heavenly flavors!
