Sugar is also effective in protecting plants from nematodes. These are microscopic parasitic worms. While some nematodes are beneficial for growing in the garden or vegetable patch, others are more of a pest to plants. Also, if your plants are infested with nematodes, you can mix half a cup of sugar with 5 liters of water. Then spray the solution at the base of the plants.

Please note that sugar should be used in moderation. Although it is beneficial for plants, it also feeds bacteria. An overdose could accelerate their development and cause your plants to rot.

Due to the nutrients it provides, sugar can be used in growing geraniums, as long as it is not exceeded. Once a month use is sufficient. Any excess runs the risk of producing a counterproductive effect. Your geraniums may stop growing and rot. To fertilize your plants with sugar, you can proceed in two different ways. The first method is to sprinkle a teaspoon of sugar directly on the geranium soil. The second method is to dilute a tablespoon of sugar in two cups of water. You will thus obtain a liquid fertilizer that will be useful both for watering your pelargoniums and for fertilizing them.
