Instructions
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of the sugar in the warm milk. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Mix the Dough: In a large mixing bowl (or a stand mixer bowl), combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and the egg. Mix until everything is combined.
Knead the Dough: Knead the dough by hand for about 10 minutes or with a dough hook on medium speed for 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a greased baking sheet or in a round cake pan with a little space between each ball.
Second Rise: Cover the rolls lightly and let them rise for another 30 minutes, or until they’re almost doubled in size.
Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter or an egg wash (1 beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of water). Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.
