Ingredients:
3/4 cup self-rising yellow cornmeal
1/4 cup self-rising flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
Approximately 1 cup hot water (adjust as needed)
Oil for frying
Instructions:
1. Combine cornmeal, flour, and salt in a small bowl.
2. Use a fork to mix, then gradually add hot water until you have a thin batter.
3. Let the batter rest while you heat a skillet over medium heat with a thin coat of oil.
4. Add batter to the skillet without overcrowding.
5. Cook until edges brown and bubbles appear, then flip and cook the other side for 2-3 minutes.
6. Drain on paper towels.
Serve the Hot Water Cornbread hot with your preferred accompaniments such as honey butter, collard greens, black-eyed peas, or any other side dishes that you prefer.
