1. In a shallow bowl, soak the shrimp in buttermilk for 20 minutes.
2. In another bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, oregano, salt, and black pepper.
3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pan to 375°F (190°C).
4. Dredge the buttermilk-soaked shrimp in the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
5. Fry the shrimp in batches until golden brown and crisp, about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
6. In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise with a desired amount of hot sauce.
7. Spread the spicy mayonnaise on the toasted French bread rolls.
8. Assemble the sandwich by placing a generous amount of fried shrimp on the bottom half of each roll, followed by shredded lettuce, tomato slices, and pickle slices.
