Maggots in the Trash Bin? Here’s How to Prevent Them

Kill the Maggots
Boiling Water: Pour boiling water directly into the bin to kill maggots instantly.
Vinegar or Lemon Juice: Mix equal parts vinegar or lemon juice with water and spray it inside the bin.
Salt: Sprinkle a generous amount of salt over the maggots, as it dehydrates and kills them.
2. Deep Clean the Bin
Remove all trash and maggots from the bin.
Scrub the interior with a stiff brush and a solution of hot water and detergent.
Disinfect with a mixture of bleach and water (1:10 ratio).
3. Deodorize the Bin
Place a dryer sheet, a piece of charcoal, or a sprinkle of baking soda at the bottom of the bin to absorb odors.
