You're finally lying down, ready to drift off to sleep... but a slight buzzing noise ruins the mood. That pesky mosquito, circling around you again, never showing itself! You've tried everything: the light on, the blanket up to your nose... nothing works. What if the solution was simply in the palm of your hand?
A simple method... with your phone!
Yes, you read that right. No need to get up or turn into a mosquito-repellent ninja. All you need is your smartphone. The idea? Attract the mosquito with the light and the carbon dioxide you exhale. Easy as pie.
Here's what to do:
Lie comfortably on your back in bed. Breathe deeply.
Set your phone's brightness to maximum.
Place it on your chest, lit screen facing upwards.
Bend your knees if your sheets are light. This creates a more visible background to spot the mosquito.
Blow gently toward the phone. Carbon dioxide naturally attracts mosquitoes.
Wait a few minutes. The mosquito, curious and attracted by the light and your breath, will approach...
Once it's there, resting on or around the screen: it's your turn!
No more disturbed nights because of a secretive mosquito.
This tip works just as well on regular mosquitoes as it does on the tiger mosquito. And to be truly prepared, always keep a small object handy to help you eliminate it easily. No need to go bare-handed, unless you're a night hunter!
One more tip: avoid crushing the creature directly with your hands, unless you want to decorate your sheets with unpleasant marks... A towel or a small notebook will do the trick!
And if the bite is already there?
Too late, have you already been bitten? Don't panic, we all have our own little home remedies to relieve the itching. A drop of lavender essential oil (always diluted), a little apple cider vinegar, or even a slice of lemon on the affected area can really soothe.
Bonus: why do some people always get bitten?
There are those who never get bitten... and those who are the preferred targets. It all comes down to body odor, blood type, and even the warmth of your skin. Curious to know more? We explain everything in our dedicated article right here!
As you've probably guessed, this technique requires no special equipment, no spray, no gadget... just a little patience and a phone. And we all have one handy.
Rest easy, mosquitoes better watch out!
