When I found baby diapers in my 15-year-old son's backpack, my heart sank.
This wasn't normal. Not at that age.

A flurry of thoughts raced through my mind.
Was this a joke? A silly bet with friends? Was he hiding something serious?
I found myself considering worst-case scenarios. Maybe he'd gotten a girl pregnant? Was he involved in something I didn't know about?

I had no proof, only that pack of diapers, tucked away at the bottom of his school bag, like a well-kept secret. But something was wrong, it was a mother's intuition. So I made a decision: I would follow him after school.

The next day, I left work early. I waited for him outside the school, parked far enough away to avoid being noticed.
He wasn't going straight home, as he told me. He was walking quickly, with a determined stride, in the opposite direction from us.

I followed him discreetly for over twenty minutes, until he stopped in front of a small, modest house in a quiet neighborhood on the other side of town.
He knocked gently, then entered as if he were used to it.
